One of the most important things I have learned through my journey with Fuel Up to Play 60, is how important it is to start your day off with a good balanced healthy breakfast! I used to NEVER eat breakfast. And then would always wonder why I was so sluggish and tired throughout the day, which would lead to me eating a monster lunch and making me feel even more sluggish! I learned that, by not eating breakfast, my metabolism wasn’t kicking in. It was kind of like a car with no gas in it. As I talk to kids all around the country, I tell them to think of their bodies as a Ferrari. And you wouldn’t put cheap gas into a Ferrari now would you? So not only do we want to make sure we eat breakfast within an hour of waking up to get our engine going, we want to make sure we are putting in premium gas. Which is a balanced and healthy breakfast. Sometimes it’s a healthy bowl of Quaker Oatmeal with milk or fruit and a glass of low-fat chocolate milk. Sometimes it’s protein powder and milk for a quick protein shake and grabbing a string cheese or a yogurt for a snack later on. And now that we have Fueled Up, we are on cruise control for the rest of the day.

I’m lucky enough to get to speak with former Atlanta Falcon great Chuck Smith at schools often. And I want to share with you the story that he likes to tell. The very first day of his very first game in the NFL, he was so nervous and excited, that he forgot to eat breakfast! And he didn’t realize it until it was game time! So he ran around the locker room looking for someone that had some food. The only thing he could find was a couple of hard candies. So he popped them in his mouth and ran out onto the field. The Falcons kicked off, and then it was Chuck and his defense’s turn to take the field! On the very first play, the ball was snapped, Chuck fired off, and with no fuel in his Ferrari, he got hit and was KNOCKED OUT! (It’s not quite the same when he’s not standing in front of you screaming that he got KNOCKED OUT!) But anyways, back on track. Chuck got knocked out cold. After that day, he promised never to make the mistake of not Fueling Up so he can go out on that field and Play 60 minutes! And even to this day, Chuck gets up every morning to make sure that his own kids get a healthy breakfast! He also trains elite athletes to do the same.

My name is Tiger Greene. I recently turned 15 and am a National Ambassador for the Fuel Up to Play 60. I just started 9th grade at Alpharetta High School and am proud to play football and be a part of #RAIDERNATION!!! 🙂 I also just had my book released and was given a proclamation by the Governor of Georgia for my non-profit foundation I started and for my efforts with Fuel Up to Play 60. And I run my own non-profit to help kids have a healthier and more active lifestyle! And there is NO way I could keep up this crazy schedule, if I didn’t start my day off by Fueling Up with breakfast!

It’s so important to eat a healthy breakfast, I see a big difference when I eat a bowl of Cheerios, vs. doughnuts, garbage in, garbage out!
